  1. APPEALS: The appeal process for the 2023 tax bills ended July 7, 2023.
  2. BANKRUPTCY: If for any reason the taxpayer is in bankruptcy, please disregard this notice, however, it would be appreciated if you would ask your trustee to advise us as to the status of your account.
  3. DUE DATE: Please note the due date on the front of this bill. Taxes must be paid on or before the due date to avoid any late fees. We honor the post mark by the US Postal Service.
    The Tax Commissioner's Office cannot guarantee receipt of a tax payment in the mail.
  4. ESCROW: We do not mail to Mortgage Companies. State law requires all bills to be mailed to the January 1st owner of record.
  5. FAILURE TO PAY: Past due taxes are subject to enforcement measures and will begin immediately after the due date.
  6. HOMESTEAD EXEMPTIONS: Apply for 2024 homestead exemptions through the Gilmer County Tax Assessor's Office by April 1st 2024.
  7. INTEREST: Per GA Code 48-2-40--The prime rate plus 3% to accrue monthly, shall begin to accrue from the due date until the bill is paid in full.
  8. PENALTY: Per GA Code 48-2-44--The aggregate limit is 20% of the principal amount of the tax originally due. 120 days after the tax is due and unpaid the first 5% is added, then 120 days later the 2nd 5% is added, then 120 days later the 3rd 5% is added, and then 120 days later the 4th 5% is added.

  11. If doing online banking, please update bill/map numbers with your bank.
    We do not take credit cards in the office.
  12. RECEIPTS: Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment if you would like a receipt.
  13. SOLD PROPERTY: If the property was sold after January 1st please forward the bill to the new owner.
